ADDING UP! - OUR SCHOOL UNIFORM CAMPAIGN
Top Ten Checklist - How does your school measure up?
1. Make sure the school uniform is available from a range of outlets and not a sole supplier - this includes items sold through the school itself.
2. Offer sew- on or iron-on badges that can be put on plain clothing.
3. If possible , choose colours for trousers, skirts, sweat pants etc that can be carried over from one school to the next.
4. Encourage second-hand uniform sales or swap schemes.
5. Set up a fund for families in need which is widely publicised and discreetly administered so that a parent is not embarrassed to ask for help. (Local trusts and businesses can often help)
6. Give parents a schedule of trips at the start of the school year so they have a chance to budget.
7. Be clear which trips are essential for school work and which are not.
8. Make sure letters don't imply that 'voluntary' contributions are necessary for trips to go ahead.
9. Promote saving/financial planning schemes by linking with a Credit Union or setting up a savings scheme into which parents can make regular payments.
10. Allocate a Governor to keep a check on parental expenditure and affordability.
